Note, most of our lists are using Groups.io, our standard mailing list service, and new lists are created by LF program managers or other community-designated administrators. This article is only relevant to Mailman, our previous service offering.

Due to technical limitations in Mailman, new lists (on an existing mailman lists domain) cannot be created by the program managers or community admins. Please file a request a change to an existing service ticket for your project with service "Mailman (legacy)" and include the following information in the details:

List name (letters, numbers, and dash or underscore only)
A short, one-line description for the list
Is the list an announcement list (only authorized members can post to the list), or a discussion list (all members can post to the list)?
Is the list private (hidden from front page, members must be added by a list admin, archives only available to list members) or public (shown on front page, anyone can request to join the list, archives are publicly searchable)
Provide the email addresses of the list admins who will manage and moderate the list going forward.
